WHAT'S NEW |
WE ARE
7 YEARS OLD!
|
Excel
celebrates its 7th year on New Year's Day 2008.
It's been seven great years and we are growing stronger
and better.
Looking back, 2007 was another banner year for Excel
TKD. In January, we moved to a bigger and better
location. Excel TKD's new home boasts of more than
6,000 square feet of space, making our school one
of the biggest schools in the San Fernando Valley.
In July, Team Excel did a great job at the Junior
Nationals. With only 7 athletes, we came home with
7 Gold medals and 2 Bronze medals.
In November, Mr. and Mrs. Marcelino tested for their
5th Dan. The test was conducted by Grand Master
Sung Chon Hong, Vice President of the Philippine
Taekwondo Association and WTF Executive Council
Member. Coaches of the Philippine Team, National
Team members, and senior black belts of the PTA
took their black belt tests as well.
Thank you for your continued trust and patronage.
May
the year 2008 bring all of us health and happiness.

EXCEL
WINS 3 SILVER MEDALS AT THE 2008 JUNIOR OLYMPICS IN
DETROIT, MICHIGAN |
Excel
Taekwondo Center captured 3 silver medals at the
recently concluded USA Taekwondo Junior Olympic
Taekwondo Championships.
Marina Sobrevinas, 14, fought in the Black Belt
14 to 17 Year Old World Class Division where she
lost in the finals. A gold medal win would have
earned Marina the female finweight spot in the US
Junior National Team. This is her first time to
compete in the Junior Olympics as a black belt.
She was a gold medalist in the red belt division
in last year's Junior Olympics.
Tyler
Miyagishima, 10, fought a very tough finals match
against a competitor from Texas. The final score
was 3-2 in favor of Texas. Tyler competed in the
Black Belt 10 to 11 Year Old World Class Division.
He won the gold medal last year in this division.
In 2006, he won the gold medal as a red belt.
The
final silver medal winner from Team Excel is Sachi
De La Cruz, 8, who competed in the Red Belt 8 to
9 Year Old World Class Division. Sachi lost in the
sudden death round.
The other competitors from Excel were Christian
Garcia (Black Belt 14 to 17 Year Old World Class
Division), Zachary Avila (Black Belt 12 to 13 Year
Old World Class Division), and Bishop De La Cruz
(Blue Belt 6 to 7 Year Old Elite Open Division).
This is the first time of Christian and Zachary
to compete as black belts in the Junior Olympics.
