Team Excel is the elite group of students at Excel Taekwondo Center. Members are selected based on their skill, dedication, perseverance, and fighting spirit. The primary objective of Team Excel is to mold and train students into champions at state and national level Taekwondo tournaments. With its inclusion as an official sport in the Olympics, Taekwondo is the fastest rising martial art and sport in the United States.
Team Excel is coached and trained by some of the most accomplished and knowledgeable coaches and trainers in the Valley.
The pride of Team Excel is the development of home-grown talents. Excel Taekwondo Center is the foremost school in the Valley in developing athletes from the Grassroots Level to the Elite Level. Its members are nurtured from the White Belt beginner level all the way up to the Black Belt elite level.
Team Excel is divided into three components:
SPARRING OR KYOROOGI
Team Excel Kyoroogi is trained and coached by veterans of international competitions who provide Team Excel exceptional competition training. The Head Coach of the sparring team is Ms. Eva Ditan, who competed as a finweight in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and is a silver medalist in the World Cup Taekwondo Championships.
The Head Trainer is Mr. Ulysses G. Marcelino, a silver medalist in the 12th World Taekwondo Championships and a four-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Taekwondo Championships and Southeast Asian Games.
Team Excel has successfully produced several national champions and Team Excel members have consistently placed in the top three of their respective divisions. One of our own students made it into the US Junior National Team.
FORMS OR POOMSAE
Excel Taekwondo Center is one of the first schools in the Valley to adopt the new WTF Standard Poomsae. Team Excel began training using the new standard as early as 2006.
The trainers and coaches of the Team Excel Poomsae are Mr. Ulysses G. Marcelino, Mrs. Catherine D. Marcelino, and Mr. Derrick Lazaro. They were the first masters in the Valley to become WTF Poomsae International Referees. They successfully completed the 6th WTF International Referee Course for Poomsae in Seoul, Korea in June 2006. They also completed the WTF Coaches Seminar for Poomsae.
REFEREE CORPS
The Team Excel Referee Corps currently has 5 USAT nationally certified referees and 2 WTF International Referees. Team Excel is in the process of developing more referees to officiate in state and national level tournaments.
